As the name suggests, our Court Department covers most aspects of law where there’s likely to be a dispute or process leading to a court case. These cases are usually to do with family law, employment or debt. They can also concern disputes about things like commercial contracts and property. (Our firm does not specialise in criminal law, so we don’t normally offer that service.)
We’re here to help during some of the most difficult and distressing times in life, such as the breakup of a marriage, an unfair dismissal from a job, or a dispute in business. It takes empathy and sensitivity – and at times it requires steely resolution to get the best outcome. Above all, it takes experience.
Between them, our court solicitors have been representing the people of the Peterhead and Fraserburgh areas over many years, and they bring an exceptional level of skill and understanding to their work.
We’re here to help review your finances, and to plan the best and fairest way to pass your hard-earned assets on to the next generation. This includes writing simple Wills, but it’s sometimes a lot more complex.
Following a death, our Executry service deals with winding up the estate and making sure that everything is in order. All legal business relating to death and inheritance must be handled with tact, diplomacy and experience – and at Masson Glennie we’re proud to have helped generations of local families through difficult times.
This department also deals with Guardianships, Powers of Attorney and legislation applying to adults with incapacity, as well as advising on long-term care and the financing of it. This is a specialised field in which direct experience is key to achieving a favourable outcome for clients and their families – and it’s an area in which we’ve taken a keen interest for many years.
Over the years we’ve helped thousands of local people acquire their homes – then sell them when it’s time to move on – and we often have the pleasure of serving several generations of the same family.
Normal conveyancing on a property should be simple and inexpensive, but there’s no substitute for a thorough, professional approach if you’re to avoid potential pitfalls. And if you’re buying or selling commercial property, homes-to-let or perhaps a property you’ve inherited, the experience of a team like ours could pay dividends.
At Masson Glennie, commercial law has been a core element of our practice for more than 80 years. We’ve worked with established local firms, small family businesses and sole traders. We’ve helped generations of business people and families in just about every sector. And because we’re here, in the North East of Scotland, we have particularly strong experience in key local industries including fishing, support service companies to the oil and gas industry, farming and renewable energy.
We handle start-ups, company formation, commercial property services, leasing, partnerships, business, company acquisitions and sales, liquor-licensing, agricultural and fishing law, company secretarial work and a great deal more. In everything we do, we combine legal expertise with commercial acumen to give our clients a tangible advantage.
We’ve been working in North East Aberdeenshire for more than 80 years, and we’ve helped succeeding generations of families buy, sell, rent and lease property. None of the national chains have our local track record.
While we’re proud of our past, we live in the present. So we offer a bespoke service with online access for live updates and progress, for buyers and sellers. There’s a dedicated viewing service, and independent mortgage advice. Naturally, as a firm of solicitors, we can offer conveyancing along with estate agency services if you wish it. And our entire estate agency service is provided with no up-front fees.
That’s where our independent mortgage advice service comes in. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, we’re able to monitor a huge range of lender products on an hourly basis.
We’ll offer a free initial interview, with no obligation to proceed. Then if we help you choose a mortgage, we’ll guide you through the application – in most cases handling everything electronically, so you have no paperwork to complete, at least until we need your signature.
We know how frustrating it can be if you’re waiting for an answer from a lender, so we’ll do the chasing for you – and keep you informed. We can dovetail our service with estate agency or property law, or both (although there’s no obligation). And we can offer advice on life assurance and household insurance, too.
